Chipped beef dip with cream cheese, dried beef, garlic and Worcestershire, is one of our favorite hot dips to serve for game day, as an appetizer or to take to a potluck. Dried beef dip is a classic appetizer that everyone loves.
If you love an appetizer dip as much as I do you are going to want to make my recipe for cast iron Pizza dip, or my hot artichoke spinach dip. And if you have extra dried chipped beef you are DEFINITELY going to want to make a chipped beef cheese ball orchipped beef on toast.
For those new here I also have a runaway popular post on how to clean a sticky wooden banister.

๐ฅซ Ingredients:

๐ Substitutions
Other additions could be diced green peppers, diced onions, horseradish or even corn kernels and chopped pecans. Feel free to adjust this recipe to make it your own.
๐ฅฃ How to make chipped beef dip
- Heat oven to 350.
- Cream together the softened cream cheese, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder.
- Stir in the diced chipped beef and sliced green onions.
- Spoon into a baking dish and smooth.
- Bake for 20-30 minutes or until dip is bubbly.
- Garnish with extra chipped beef and sliced onions, if desired.
Storage tips โ๏ธ
If you have leftovers, and that is a big if, I will keep the dip covered in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. There might be some separation of liquid from the dip. This is not a problem. Just stir it back in as you heat it.
I am a fan of reheating chipped beef dip in the oven. I place it in an unheated oven and then heat the oven to 350. By the time the oven comes to temperature, the dip has also come to temperature.
But if an oven is not available or if you are short on time, microwaving the hot beef dip in 30-second intervals is also a great option. Just be sure to stir it to distribute any hot pockets.
๐ฝ๏ธ Serving suggestions
I will serve the chipped beef dip with anything crunchy and able to scoop up the dip. Fritos, corn chips, slices of toasted baguette or pumpernickel slices are always a good idea.
๐ Frequently asked questions, answers and tips:
What is chipped beef?
Chipped beef is salted, smoked dried beef that has been sliced paper-thin. Chipped beef was once an American kitchen staple and is also known as dried beef. Look for chipped beef in small jars or plastic zip bags at the grocery store.
What is in chipped beef dip?
There are different variations of the classic warm chipped beef dip recipe but this recipe has cream cheese, sour cream, a dash of Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder diced green onions and of course, shredded chipped beef.
๐งพ Cream cheese dip recipes
I always have a block of cream cheese in the refrigerator to pull out to whip up a tasty dip to enjoy while watching a football game or when I need an easy appetizer to serve to party guests. My chef tip for making recipes with cream cheese is to be sure to allow the full fat cream cheese to come to room temperature so you have a delicious dip every time.
Hot dips
- Chipped Beef Dip - cream cheese, dried beef, garlic and Worcestershire, is one of our favorite hot dips to serve for game day, as an appetizer or to take to a potluck.
- Grilled Pizza Dip - Add pepperonis to make a pepperoni pizza dip or add grilled vegetables to make a veggie pizza dip.
- Artichoke Spinach Dip - features fresh spinach and roasted garlic. The crunchy toppingis optional but is highly suggested.
- Philly Cheesesteak Dip - Creamy hot dip filled with flavorful onions, green pepper, mushrooms, and roast beef, topped with a crispy layer of provolone cheese.
Dessert dips
- Classic Fruit Dip - Just two ingredients make the easiest and most delectable fruit dip. Serve with your favorite fruits. Add a dollop of seedless black raspberry jam.
- Cake Batter Dip - Egg, butter, and oil free cake batter. You just need 4 ingredients (plus sprinkles!) for this seemingly sinful dessert dip!
- Cranberry Jalapeno Dip - Creamy, spicy and filled with the flavors of the holiday, this Cranberry Jalapeno Dip comes together in under 5 minutes! Spread this dip on ritz crackers and it will be a big hit with guests.
- Hot Chocolate Cheesecake Dip - a fun variation on cheesecake dip
- Orange Fruit Dip - unlike some fruit dips that are just super sweet, this one has a bright and citrusy flavor that cuts down on the sweetness.
- Blueberry Cheesecake Dip - the frozen blueberries are key to this cheesecake dip.
๐ฉโ๐ณ Chef Tip
Chipped beef dip is the perfect appetizer that can be made ahead. In fact, I think the recipe is even more delicious if the ingredients are able to marinate for 1-2 hours or overnight. Keep the dip covered and in the refrigerator until it is time to heat the dip for serving.

Hi! Can you make chip beef dip ahead and freeze it uncooked? Then thaw and bake when needed?
Thanks!Reply
Sarah Mock
Hi Kim,
I have never made it ahead, frozen and cooked it. You are welcome to give it a try. My caution would be that, after freezing it, the texture may not be the same. Cream cheese changes texture after freezing. That being said, I am not sure if the sour cream would help keep it stable. I don't have time to test it but this is my caution and advise.

Can this be served at room temp or cold?
Reply
Sarah Mock
I have never tried to serve it room temp or cold from the beginning. BUT I will eat it room temperature after it has been heated once. Kind of like a leftover. Let me know what you end up doing. I would love to hear.

We used to make this years ago in the crock pot but with minced dried onion. Served with Bagel chips (which I can never find any longer) it was always a big hit!
