Can you get tulips in a bouquet? ›

Our tulip bouquets are styled with seasonal greenery and wrapped in our signature paper packaging. Each bundle includes 10-20 stems of fresh cut locally-grown tulips in a single colour. For double and triple orders, multiple colours can be requested but not guaranteed.

When to plant tulips. Dry bulbs are planted in autumn (September to November) when the plant is dormant. If you're not able to plant bulbs straight away, store them in a cool dry place. Plants bought in containers in spring from garden retailers are planted straight away and will bloom in a matter of weeks.

Once the foliage of the tulip has turned yellow and shriveled, dig up the bulbs, clean them and allow them to dry. Then either store hung up in a net or spread them out on a flat tray containing a thin layer of dry sand, moss or vermiculite. Store the tulip bulbs in a cool dry place before replanting in fall.

Can you leave tulip bulbs in the ground all year? ›

While you do not need to dig and divide your tulips every year; they should be dug up at least 3-4 years if planted in the ground. If you are not digging them up yearly, make sure they are not in an area of the yard where they will be watered all summer. Too much water over the summer will rot/kill your bulbs.

Some tulips flower earlier than others – early-flowering varieties bloom from very late March to April, mid-season bulbs in April to May, and late-flowering ones bloom in May. You can prolong your displays by growing a mix of different types.

There is no real reason to dig up tulips bulbs each year, or at all. Most gardeners leave their bulbs in the ground where they were originally planted, and, are left to rebloom. Sometimes gardeners will dig up tulip bulbs but only when the plants seem to have offered fewer flowers.

Most bulbs will still flower if they were left out for up to a year unplanted. But realize that with every passing season, while it's still possible that they could grow and flower, their growth might be weaker and flower production and size will continue to go down.

Luckily, forcing tulip bulbs into winter dormancy is simple – just place them in the refrigerator for at least 6-8 weeks. Aim to plant the chilled tulips in January, which gives them plenty of time to grow healthy roots and flower in the spring (before hot summer temperatures arrive, ending the show.)
